Future Crunch fosters intelligent, optimistic thinking for the future

We’re part of a global movement of scientists, technologists, hackers and creatives that think there are new and better ways of doing things in the 21st century.

Incredible things are happening on our planet. Diseases are being eradicated, millions are being lifted out of poverty, billions of people are gaining access to the greatest information resource humanity has ever known. We can use open source code to print prosthetic limbs, we can cut and paste our own DNA, and we’re taking bold new steps into space. But we’re not hearing a lot about it.

At Future Crunch, we believe that disruptive technologies are bringing about a world that is more peaceful, transparent and abundant. We’re determined to share that story. Our expertise ranges from politics, economics, coding and bioinformatics to design, art and music. We use our diverse knowledge to provide unexpected perspectives on what the future looks like, through the lenses of science, technology and social theory.

Our mission is to foster intelligent, optimistic thinking about the future, and to empower people to contribute to it…

A New Education Model for Humanity

A New Education Model for Humanity

All human beings are born creators. If you don’t believe me, I urge you to recall when you were a child. Didn’t you love to paint and dance and sing? Didn’t you love to indulge in imaginary worlds you conjured up in your head? Children are naturally creative. It’s one of the things that makes us human. The problem is we’ve been cultured out of our creativity as we’ve grown older. The problem is we have been educated.

The education system is due for a major paradigm shift. For too long, it has been stuck in the dark ages. Teachers still stand at the front of the classroom and deliver information, much of it meaningless in the whole scheme of things. Schools encourage competition, conformity, obedience and standardization, while also engaging in the suppression of our natural, creative impulses and critical thinking faculties. Children are moulded and conditioned via the factory model of education to be unquestioning worker bees in a system that does not care for human progress. As a result, our species is stagnating. In order to reach the next stage of our evolution, the education system must undergo a revolution of its own…

The Six Dimensions of a New Education Paradigm…

Self-Discovery
The first of these six dimensions focuses on helping children connect with who they are, and aims to nurture each child’s passions and talents so that they may reach their highest potential as creators.

Inquiry
This dimension is about teaching children how to think instead of what to think, how to discern information critically, and how to conduct their own investigations to find the answers they’re looking for.

Sustainability
The Sustainability dimension is about reconnecting with the earth, immersing our children in nature, teaching them real life skills, and showing them how to look after their health and well-being.

Innovation
This fourth dimension is about encouraging students to think outside the box to come up with creative ideas and solutions, defying conventionality, and fostering collaboration instead of competition in the classroom.

Communication
This dimension looks at children’s overall social development, and aims to teach them how to cultivate healthy relationships, and how to manage their emotions in order to minimize conflict both internally and externally.

Empathy
The sixth dimension aims to show children the value of real human connection in their lives, by uniting students through a sense of community, encouraging acts of kindness, and adopting a holistic, planetary philosophy.

Wave energy and water production

Wave energy and water production

Carnegie was the first wave energy company to generate both power and freshwater onshore as part of its Perth Wave Energy Project at Garden Island in Western Australia.

Carnegie is an ASX-listed company based in Perth, Western Australia. Carnegie is developing its 100% owned CETO wave energy technology. The CETO technology has been under development for over 10 years at the company’s corporate office and their unique Wave Energy Research Facility at Fremantle.

Named after a Greek sea goddess, CETO offers the potential to revolutionise power and water production globally. CETO harnesses the enormous renewable energy present in our ocean’s waves and converts it into two of the most valuable commodities underpinning the sustainable growth of the planet; zero-emission electricity and zero-emission desalinated water.

The CETO system is different from other wave energy devices as it operates under water where it is safer from large storms and invisible from the shore. The fully submerged buoys drive pumps and generators that are contained offshore, within the buoy itself, with power delivered back to shore through subsea cables to power desalination plants as well as for export into the grid.

CETO differs from other wave technologies under development globally by being fully submerged and generating power onshore rather than offshore. CETO has been proven at pilot scale and is now in its commercial demonstration phase.
